ABOUT THE PROJECT
This project, one of Katerina Churina's most cherished works, demanded considerable effort and time. It involved combining two apartments into a single cohesive space. Beneath the apartment's minimalist aesthetic lies a wealth of intricate engineering solutions, ensuring a high level of comfort. The project's unique appeal stems from a distinctive blend of forms, textures, and light. These unique combinations lend expressiveness to the interior while preserving a sense of lightness and minimalism.
CLIENT
The owners of this apartment are long-standing clients with whom we have collaborated for many years. The first apartment for this wonderful couple was designed and brought to life by Churina Design Studio in 2009, during our inaugural year of operation. Subsequently, we jointly developed and executed a house project for the clients' parents. When, after a decade, our clients decided to move to a new residence, they once again entrusted us with their vision.
ONGOING
OUTCOME
At first glance, a color scheme based on gray tones might appear cold, but the interior of this stunning apartment feels bright and warm.
During the redesign, we combined the living room, kitchen, and hallway into a single open-plan area. The hallway, typically hidden from view, serves as the main focal point of this project. Natural walnut veneer wood panels conceal hidden doors and a coat closet, transitioning seamlessly into the kitchen facades. Wood finishes are also featured on the pillars in the living area, in the master bedroom, and in the children's room.
The most striking feature of the interior is a green wall visible from both the living and dining areas. This 'slice of jungle' appears natural and harmonious, complementing the abundant wood elements throughout the interior.
A subtle window in the wall conceals a dressing room. It is illuminated from within, filling the room with soft light.
The minimalist kitchen, in light gray tones, does not draw unnecessary attention, yet it exemplifies modern style. It was meticulously designed specifically for this project and incorporates all modern technologies. All appliances are concealed within tall cabinets, also clad with wood panels. These cabinets extend seamlessly from the walls of the hallway and living room.
The central section of the kitchen appears weightless, and gentle lighting beneath the suspended section gives it a light and futuristic appearance.
The other half of the apartment is dedicated to private living spaces. It houses a children's room, a master bedroom, and two bathrooms. The master bedroom is designed in soft, natural tones. A unique feature is the glass wall leading to the bathroom, which can be closed with curtains for added privacy. From the bathroom, there is direct access to a closet. The closet not only serves for storing clothes and shoes but also functions as a server room with additional cooling and ventilation, managing the entire 'smart' home system, lighting, and climate control.
The children's room is designed in light tones. This allows children to personalize their space with preferences that will evolve as they grow. The room features a bunk bed, cozy play areas, and ample storage for children's belongings and toys.
The interior's comfort is enhanced by thoughtful lighting and wooden furniture elements, which infuse the space with natural warmth. Every element of this project was designed by the Churina Design studio team and imbued with meaning.
