ABOUT THE PROJECT
Designer Katerina Churina and her team faced a complex challenge. They were tasked with reconstructing and redesigning an apartment in a historic building located in the heart of Amsterdam. The most important thing was to ensure that the space could accommodate guests or be rented out.
CUSTOMER
The owner of the apartment is an enthusiast of sailing, photography, and the martial art of kendo. Within the limited space of the apartment, the team had to create convenient storage areas for various items, such as equipment, sea route maps, photographic equipment, books, and even sails.

RESULT
To preserve the atmosphere of the old Dutch house, the original windows were retained. The initial layout lacked sinks and there was only one toilet with a shower. Part of the space was taken up by a spiral staircase in the entrance hall.
Thanks to a complete redesign, the team was able to create a fully functional bathroom with a large sink and a separate toilet with a small sink. The staircase, which previously took up part of the room, was covered with decorative "honeycomb" tiles.
A monochromatic and timeless interior in black and white tones was chosen. The natural wood gives the space a feeling of warmth and comfort.
The main problem was the small and atypical dimensions of each area. For example, the narrow, long kitchen could not accommodate all the necessary appliances. The solution was to create adjacent custom-designed furniture constructions for the kitchen and bedroom.
Thanks to these constructions, the kitchen was able to accommodate an oven and a drawer for storing crockery; part of the furniture is built into the headboard of the bed, beyond the wall. The small bedroom is finished in black to create an illusion of depth in the space. The bed is equipped with a lifting mechanism for additional storage. This compact set of furniture has been meticulously designed by Churina Design and manufactured under our supervision.
