ABOUT THE PROJECT
This project was undertaken for a wonderful young family. It marked their first property purchase in Amsterdam after many years of renting. They sought something fresh and distinct from the typical white walls and minimalist design often found in the Netherlands. They chose to move away from traditional Scandinavian style, opting instead for a more inviting and comfortable atmosphere that truly reflected their personal tastes and preferences.
CLIENT
Our clients work in IT and programming, lead active lifestyles, enjoy traveling, and are always seeking new experiences. For their home, they aimed to integrate all their diverse interests. They are open-minded individuals who require multiple workspaces for a change of scenery. They envisioned a welcoming kitchen for entertaining guests and a living room that would serve as the family's relaxation hub. This is why the living room features two distinct sofas: one with a masculine aesthetic and another with a feminine touch. They were open to experimentation and placed particular emphasis on incorporating the latest lighting technologies, including Philips Hue.
ONGOING
OUTCOME
We completely transformed the apartment's initial appearance by introducing color, textures, and unique lighting. Under specific conditions, this young family's apartment can transition from a cozy home into a vibrant disco. In the main area, we connected the kitchen and living room with decorative metal columns, which will eventually be adorned with plants. In the kitchen, we added color and depth using decorative brickwork on the wall.
We enhanced the kitchen set with additional upper drawers, decorative shelves, and a sideboard featuring sliding doors for dishes and spirits. The living room is subtly divided into masculine and feminine zones, with sofas arranged facing each other to encourage conversation. The main focal point of the living room is the wall, adorned with decorative concrete panels.
We also transformed the balcony into an inviting space for relaxation, featuring wooden flooring and bright fabric chairs. Numerous green plants on special stands on the balcony add a touch of nature to both the living room and kitchen. The most vibrant room in this project was the bedroom. We particularly appreciated the contrast between the light, whitewashed wooden floor and the brilliant blue walls.
We complemented the walls with decorative moldings to infuse elegance into the room. For contrast, we utilized decorative wallpapers featuring a concrete image on the radio wall; it may appear somewhat eccentric, but we find it appealing. The composition was completed with a renowned pendant lamp by French designer Mark Eden Schooley – the Koushi Lamp – and decorative wall sconces beside the bed.
