ABOUT THE PROJECT

The idea of creating my own home did not stem from a desire for architectural realization. I am not an architect, but an interior designer, specializing in renovation and spatial transformation. Instead of investing years in plans, permits, and construction, I adopted a different approach: I sought a house that already possessed character. My primary requirement? A unique layout—something with individuality, not another predictable box. Another critical condition was the staircase. With two small children and our own need for comfort, steep steps were not an option. However, in this mountainous region, where plots often resemble a waterfall, this was no small challenge.

CLIENT

The client? My own family. This project was deeply personal: an opportunity to design not only a beautiful space but also a meaningful one. I exclusively worked with trusted suppliers, with whom I have collaborated over the years, because true interior design is founded on relationships, integrity, and a shared vision.

For the style, I chose contemporary classicism within a soft, neutral palette. Much like many architects who dress in black to maintain visual focus, I steered away from bold accents in favor of deep textures, serene details, and timeless materials. We retained approximately 70% of the original layout. The remaining 30% involved adjustments to enhance light and functionality—thoughtful changes that brought the design to life.

OUTCOME

We searched for two years. The purchase itself took another eight months. What made this house the chosen one? A two-level layout featuring a grand central staircase reminiscent of classic European villas. Carefully separated rooms provide privacy and tranquility without the need for soundproofing. A completely untouched interior—no renovations for 25 years—allowed us to see its original structure and materials, enabling us to transform it starting from scratch.

The result is a home that is both elegant and vibrant. A place of lasting comfort and serene inspiration. We restored the original wooden floors, maintained the authentic windows, and utilized as many existing elements of the house as possible, not only for sustainability but also to preserve its soul.

Instead of creating something new from scratch, we gave this house a second life. It is now ready to live another 25 years, with our family, our memories, and a new story woven into every corner.
